Come on, Come by…

There hasn’t been much action here in the last few years. Mostly it’s been this “Saw These…” project that I never bothered to introduce or contextualize, paired with downcast maunderings and a few songs.

To explain:

After I finished No One Remembers I had a newborn to look after. Newborns turn into toddlers, and then into kids, but never into less of a commitment. Most of you reading are already converts to this gospel.

After Rosie arrived I started taking pictures. This was no accident- I wanted better documents of her life than a bank of iPhone images (not judging, I just needed a little more). As I made progress I wasn’t surprised to learn that, as with music, taking photos, fixing them up and prepping them for whatever you plan to do with them, takes time. I’m not complaining, just trying to put things in perspective.

So now I have two cool hobbies that get to compete with a daughter that I love, a wife that I love, my parents, my in-laws, my friends, keeping fit, watching sports, drinking beer, and taking trips. You can see that the hours get spread rather thin after a while.

Photos, not music-making or writing, have been my focus this year, and I’m good with that. I want to organize the images from ‘Saw These and Thought of You’ into a book once I’ve edited and posted the project’s December installment. When starting ST+TOY I thought there’d be a companion EP that would soundtrack the photos, but there hasn’t been time for that.

The world doesn’t need a book of pictures that I took, but I’m guessing that some of you who read this may be interested. I’ve learned over the years that connecting with people by sharing things you make is an important thing, even if some of it feels self-indulgent and a little boring. Uou try to make things as good as can be made.

So, once Saw These and Thought About You is out, all the photo bullshit will live at This place will revert to its once familiar guise as notepad and songster platform. For those of you who are listening, of course.

Bye, now.

  • Lewis,

For some reason I’ve stopped receiving email alerts when you post. There’s some solid work in the latest dispatches. Looking forward to the book, and more music.

PS: Check your email. I wrote to you like 3 months ago.
